Our History

Global Harmony was founded in September 1999 under the guidance of our first musical director, Sally Brown. Originally formed as a women’s group, we sang entirely a cappella—a tradition that continues to this day—with a rich and diverse repertoire of songs from around the world
After Easter 2001, we welcomed Chris Rowbury—founder of Worldsong in Coventry and former musical director of Woven Chords in Stamford—as our new musical director. Over the next four years, Global Harmony blossomed in both size and confidence. It was during this time that we opened our doors to male voices and truly embraced our ethos of welcoming anyone who wished to sing for the joy of it.

A new chapter in Global Harmony’s musical journey began in September 2005, when the vibrant and inspiring Liz Underhill became our musical director. During her tenure, the choir flourished—highlighted by memorable exchange visits with our friends from the French choir, Canta Koume, in the Loire Valley. After many joyful and successful years, Liz retired from singing in 2018, leaving a lasting legacy

Carl Hodson guided Global Harmony through one of its most challenging chapters during the Covid-19 lockdowns, ensuring the choir stayed connected and continued to sing—albeit in new and creative ways. His dedication and leadership carried us through until he stepped down at the end of 2022.

We are now delighted to be led by Jane Bursnall, an experienced and passionate choir leader. With Jane at the helm, Global Harmony Community Choir looks forward to an exciting and harmonious future.
