Global Harmony, one of Melton Mowbray’s most established singing groups, is now in its ninth year!
We were formed in September 1999 under the watchful eye of Sally Brown who is well known locally for her work with Wide World Voices and The Out of silence National Trust Choir, both based in Grantham. We began as a women’s group, the singing was all a cappella and the repertoire was music from around the world.
Chris Rowbury, Musical Director of WORLDSONG in Coventry and Woven Chords in Stamford, became our next musical director after Easter 2001, and over the next four years, Global Harmony grew in size and confidence. We opened our doors to male voices and now have a strong bass section!
In September 2005 we began a new chapter in our musical history when Liz Underhill became our musical director. We have gone from strength to strength under Liz's guidance and are in demand for concerts. Bookings run into 2009 already.
A new section called 'Close Harmony' was formed in March 2007. It is 12-14 strong and sings both the choir and its own repertoire. All the section members are full time members of the main choir. 'Close Harmony' sings at main choir concerts and concerts of its own.
